見かねた堀調教師が「俺に貸せ」と言わんばかりに、引き役を厩務員と交替しました。引き綱を馬の口元で短く持ち、綱の余った部分を鞭として使って尻にビシッとひと叩き。とたんに馬がおとなしくなりました。あとは何度か見せ鞭を使うだけで、以降は最後まで一人で引いてしまったのです。
